The Writing Fisherman

A native Missourian and US Air Force Veteran, Jason is a busy guy. He's a devoted husband of over 25-years and a family man, has a day job he still enjoys, hosts a weekly podcast, and makes time to write anywhere, and everywhere that he can. He once completed a book on his phone, sitting in the theater while waiting for a movie to start! When Jason isn't working or writing, he's usually found at the lake. As an avid bass fisherman, he regularly encourages others to enjoy the outdoors more often.

"I’ve always been a storyteller and I don't know if that comes naturally, or if it's the fisherman side of me. Every fisherman I've ever met has been a storyteller, and I do love to fish! My wife likes to tease that I can't give a simple explanation of anything. I set the scene, describe the players and setting before diving into something as mundane as why I forgot to take out the trash or some other such thing.

I grew up writing adventure stories about my friends and me in the vein of 80's action movies. For many years, and like many authors, I began and abandoned several novels.  Becoming a published author was a dream that seemed just out of reach of my busy and hectic schedule."

In 2015 Jason became a Grandpa and something inside finally clicked. "I got serious about being a writer. Instead of spending my mornings watching the DVR or playing Xbox, I started writing. I also joined a local writing group and began reading more than ever. I was amazed at how difficult that first book was. Early mornings. Late nights. Dozens of rewrites. And yet I found such joy in all the work that is the creation process."

Jason's hard work paid off in April of 2018 with the release of his first novel, Nine-Mile Bridge. His next book, A Novel Idea, came out on New Year's Eve of 2020. His third came out in October of 2021 and is the first book in a SciFi adventure series called The Bandit Chronicles. The sequel is coming soon!

Jason doesn't have a mailing list, but you can hear him each week on his show, The Sample Chapter Podcast. There, Jason gives a little insight into his writing and upcoming events but the main focus is on other authors. Each episode features unique interviews with authors from all over the world followed by the guest author reading a chapter from one of their books. He's interviewed first-time authors and best-sellers alike along with a few celebrity authors along the way! The show is available on iTunes or anywhere you listen to podcasts.
